AI Policy Overview
Florida lawmakers have yet to prioritize artificial intelligence policies broadly. However, Florida enacted a political deepfake law in 2024. Also in 2024, lawmakers enacted a law (FL SB 1680) creating the Florida Government Technology Modernization Council to study and monitor the development and deployment of AI systems.
Deepfakes
In 2024, Florida enacted a political deepfake law (FL HB 919) that requires political advertising to include a disclaimer if it uses generative AI that appears to depict a real person performing an action that did not occur in reality and was created with the intent to injure a candidate or to deceive regarding a ballot issue. The law provides for civil and criminal penalties.
